Velvia Layer

This is a technique for boosting colour and tone in an image, that is duplicating the effects of Velvia or for that matter any other film.

  1. Stage 1 is to duplicate the base layer.
  2. Then working on this new layer alone. Go to Image>adjustments>Hue and Saturation and mess around with the duplicated layer till it is well over the top for the effect looked for. For Velvia push the saturation up until just before it goes neon and use the hue to warm the picture up. If your after a Fuji effect boost the greens.
  3. Then a bit of Gaussian Blur to sort out the pixelation caused by pushing the saturation up.
  4. Now change the blending mode to overlay and the opacity to a reasonable level.
  5. Making the new layer visible and invisible allows to to see the changes in the image.
